Come to Meerut, in Uttar Pradesh, India, and visit the school my mother founded in 1948.
I discovered it 66 years later. A snippet of information hidden away in a file long forgotten.
I looked for an email address but found none. I knew it was part of the Military Remount Veterinary Corps my father belonged to. I looked up their Meerut address and wrote a letter. On the reverse of the envelope I said: To the Post Master General Meerut Cantt.. It is very important for me to find this school so please call me at xxxxxxx if address not found.
I crossed my fingers and sent up a prayer. I had to know if the school still existed.
A month later I got a call from the Post Master. He hadn’t found the school. I told him to send his man into the RVC Centre and ask if they had a school. They did and the next day I got a call from the Principal.
My son and I visited the school in October of 2014. The entrance to the Centre is named after my father. The school still runs. Right up to the 10th standard. It has 200 children and the results are cent per cent.
These are some of the photographs of my parents’ legacy.
